OUR STORY
Dŵr Y Felin Log Cabins are situated on our working family farm set in a lovely valley in the heart of Mid Wales.
The Humphreys family have been living and working in Carno for five generations. Firstly, the Humphreys' owned the The Mill, grinding flour for all the local farmers. When the Mill stopped working, the family purchased small parcels of land from the Adams Estate, Plas Llysun, and gradually built up the farm, which we are still running today, along with our three children.
Dŵr Y Felin translates as The Mill Water, as the water in the stream nearby to the cabins fed the Mill pool which was then sluiced down to the Mill wheel. Hugh, Sarah and family welcome you to our little corner of paradise, and hope you will return as friends.
THE FARM
Our farm is all grassland which is grazed by our 600 sheep and 30 cattle, oh, and two goats that Ioan bought for himself as a Christmas present!
There are areas on the farm around your Cabin which provide a welcome habitat to a diverse range of wildlife and flora.
Squirrels live in the tree above the cattle grid and buzzards nest high in the trees in the nearby woodland. We regularly see red kites soaring above the farm, there are also badgers in a sett nearby, who do visit the lawns around the log cabins at night to dig for worms! Rabbits have also decided to burrow in the banks between the cabins, and also under the decking!
There are bird feeding stations by each cabin, where you are more than welcome to use, but please do not put food on the decking and table as it does encourage the wildlife to make a mess!
THE FAMILY
Siwan our eldest daughter has recently returned to the village, and has set up her own self catering business a little further up the lane from our log cabins, exclusive for couples called Nant Awen.
Our son Ioan runs the farm, with Elliw our youngest daughter. They all help out with the log cabins of course!
As a family run business, we look forward to welcoming all our guests to the log cabins, and greet everyone personally, showing them the hot tub upon arrival. We are also more than willing to pass on our knowledge of the area to guests who wish to see mid Wales' "off the beaten track" - please feel free to speak to Sarah as your hot tub is being checked over.
